Surgical & Non-Surgical Brow Lift, Eyebrow Lift & Forehead Lift Procedure
The effects of aging are inevitable. The brow and forehead are usually the first areas that show the signs of aging. The skin loses its elasticity due to several factors. This can be because of the wind, sun, and pull of gravity– all of which can affect the face, and this leads to wrinkling across the forehead or frown lines. There can also be an increasing heaviness in their eyebrows. People in their early thirties can also have facial features that make them look years older than their real age. If you are a person who is mistaken as being angry, tired, or sad because of your appearance, you may want to consider a forehead lift.
Understanding the Surgical Procedure
The main difference between the different options for forehead lifting is the placement of the incision. The newest approach known as the “endoscopic surgery,” requires several small incisions that are placed behind the hairline, and a scope is utilized to assist during the procedure. If done properly, there are fewer side effects experienced– this includes a smaller risk of numbness and a faster recovery time.
Another technique uses longer incisions. This is done to lift the eyebrow and the location is determined by the specialist after a thorough assessment and discussion with the patient is performed.
Aside from the usual benefits of raising the brow and smoothing the forehead, this can also lower the hairline, while improving facial balance and harmony. This procedure usually takes between 1-2 hours, and it’s usually done under twilight anesthesia or IV sedation.
Who Are the Candidates for This Procedure?
Those who belong in these categories are ideal candidates for brow lift surgery:
– Those who are physically healthy.
– Those who don’t smoke.
– Those who have realistic goals and positive outlook in life.
As we age, wrinkle lines may appear on the forehead, and frown lines between the brows could make a person look “too serious” or even angry when they’re not. Skin relaxation can also cause the brows to drop, or hood the upper eyelids and making the person look tired. For these people a brow lift procedure may be ideal.
What to Expect After Surgery
After a forehead lift surgery, bruising and swelling within a 10-day period is completely normal. For some patients, they also experience swelling, not only on their forehead, but also around the eye and cheek area. Following surgery, it’s important to keep the head well-elevated to reduce swelling. While the incisions heal, it’s common to experience some numbness and itchiness. Don’t worry; these side effects will diminish gradually.
After 10 days, the sutures will be removed. In situations where bandages have been used, these will be removed 1-3 days after the procedure. It’s very important to follow the advice of the medical practitioner closely to ensure that a smooth recovery process. For most patients, the recovery time does not exceed two weeks, but it’s still recommended to stay away from strenuous activities during the recovery period. If you experience bruising, this can easily be concealed with the help of makeup.
Sometimes, a brow lift is combined with eyelid tucks (Blepharoplasty), or facelift for a more harmonious rejuvenation.
Facial plastic surgery makes it possible to fix any facial flaw, as well as signs of premature aging. This can result in an increase in self-confidence and a feeling of well-being.
