Surgical & Non-Surgical Eyelid Lift Procedure
Surgical Eyelid Lift Procedure
Eyelid surgery, also referred to as blepharoplasty, removes excess skin and fat pockets from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed as a single procedure or together with other facial procedures such as a brow lift, facelift, or laser resurfacing. Patients can undergo eyelid surgery under local anesthesia or general anesthesia if requested.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Nguyen marks all the individual lines and creases of the eyelids to keep scars hidden along natural folds. An incision is made and excess skin, fat, and muscle that are contributing to the tired or droopy appearance are removed. In some cases, the muscle or fat is repositioned. The remaining skin is then lifted and reattached. The incisions are closed with fine sutures.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
In lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Nguyen makes the incision in an inconspicuous area just below the lower lash line. Excess, skin, fat, and muscle are removed. The fat may be redistributed to get rid of bulges or puffiness. Other existing problems such as muscle laxity are also rectified during surgery.
The scars from blepharoplasty heal quickly and are well hidden by natural creases. The surgery usually lasts one to two hours depending on the amount of work being done. Blepharoplasty surgery is a very personalized procedure. Your consultation with Dr. Nguyen and your specific goals will determine whether your surgery will include the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both.
Non-Surgical Eyelid Lift Procedure
A non-surgical eyelid lift is done without cutting, removing excess fat or skin, or modifying the eyelids’ orbicular muscle. It involves the use of injectable treatments to rejuvenate tired-looking eyes and restore youthful proportions. A combination of Botulinum toxin, often referred to as Botox, and temporary fillers are often used.
Upper Eyelids
During non-surgical upper eyelid lifts, Botox is injected into the corrugator supercilii and the orbicularis oculi muscles, which work to pull the eyebrows down. The injection weakens their pulling action, giving the brow a lift. As a result, the upper eyelids are opened. It’s very important for the injector to be familiar with all the muscles in this area because a misplaced injection can make the eyebrows droop. Dr. Nguyen is a very experienced injector and is very familiar with the anatomy of these muscles.
This procedure works best for patients whose brow and upper eyelid drooping is less severe. It won’t be highly effective on a person with heavier upper eyelids and more advanced aging. An endoscopic brow lift or upper eyelid surgery are better options. Dr. Nguyen will thoroughly evaluate you to determine whether a surgical or non-surgical eyelid lift procedure will suit you better.
Dark Circles and Bags under Eyes
Dark circles and hollowness under the eye may appear with aging. They make lower eyelid bags more noticeable. A facial filler injection is used to restore the natural volume. The filler creates a smoother transition from the lower eyelid to the upper cheek area. It also improves dark circles by reducing their shading. It is important to note that a derma roller can also help to minimize any bags and dark circles that appear under your eyes too. However, many people ultimately decide to get a facial filler injection instead. The procedure is quick and virtually pain-free. It has little downtime.
Hyaluronic acid based facial fillers are the most commonly used fillers to correct these problems. The lower eyelid has extremely thin skin. An overly superficial injection can cause conspicuous irregularities such as lumps and nodules. The best hyaluronic acid fillers are Belotero and Restylane. They are softer and don’t attract a lot of water, minimizing lumpiness and swelling.
In some cases, a cheek lift surgery may be the best choice for minimizing dark circles and under eye hollowness. Dr. Nguyen will evaluate you before suggesting the best treatment for the dark circles and bags under your eyes.
At your initial consultation, Dr. Nguyen and his staff will come up with a personalized treatment plan that will address your concerns and suit your lifestyle.
The cosmetic procedures Dr. Nguyen performed on me were flawless with none of the tell-tale signs we all have seen from facial plastic surgery in Beverly Hills. I simply look fresher and, frankly, quite a bit younger following both my surgical and laser treatments by him.
