Overview of Facelift Recovery in the Los Angeles Area
If you’re getting ready for your facelift, it’s best to develop a strong understanding of the recovery process. Proper facelift recovery in Los Angeles requires following the post-surgical care directions of Dr. Davis B. Nguyen as closely as possible.
What Facelift Recovery Involves
The average recovery period after a facelift lasts a total of four to six weeks. A facelift involves incisions and internal tissue adjustment, which means that patients can expect some minor discomfort during the facelift recovery period. This can be accompanied by bruising, swelling, and pain. The swelling is expected to recede after one or two weeks.
To aid in the reduction of swelling, it will be best to keep one’s head elevated above their heart at all times during recovery. Patients can use pillows to prop their head up while sleeping. Application of a cold compress as directed can also help to reduce swelling and bruising.
No Strenuous Movements
While patients are still recovering from the facelift, their movements will need to be limited. Any activity that can cause strain on the body must be avoided. These include playing sports and other forms of exercise.
Best rest is necessary for the first two weeks. Patients should not ignore signs of fatigue, because they indicate the need for more sleep.
Short walks every day are advised, since they help speed up the healing process by increasing blood circulation. The duration of the walks can be slowly increased after each day.
Related Procedures
Soft Food Only
Patients will have difficulty moving their facial muscles within the first few days following the procedure. Because of this, chewing will be difficult, so it is crucial that patients limit themselves to only soft food during the first few days following the facelift procedure. They don’t necessarily need to stick to a liquid diet, since soups and mashed vegetables are acceptable. Scrambled eggs and pudding would be fine, as well.
Patients may notice that their bowel movements are irregular during the early stages of the recovery period. This is completely fine and will return to normal in a few weeks.
Prescribed Medication
Medication will be prescribed to patients to help with post-treatment pain and to prevent infections. These will need to be taken exactly as instructed in the schedule and duration that was indicated. It’s important to speak up if the prescribed medicine is having any adverse effects like cramps or nausea. Patients will be instructed as to when it is safe to resume any medications that they were previously taking.
Incision Care
The incisions created during the facelift will need proper care during the facelift recovery period. Dr. Nguyen will provide instructions on how to do so. This will include information regarding how long the dressings placed over the affected areas will need to stay in place. Patients will also be told which products are safe to use for washing their faces and which are not.

What are Dr. Nguyen’s Patients Saying?
Our Philosophy
We feel that the approach to facial plastic surgery by both patient and doctor should be a conservative one, and the result should appear natural and balanced.
There are several core philosophical principles that drive our practice. We feel that the approach to facial plastic surgery by both patient and doctor should be a conservative one. We feel that results should appear natural and balanced so that a patient looks like the best version of his or herself, not a bizarre approximation of someone else. We believe that the best outcomes are achieved when a patient and surgeon share a common objective and when there is consensus regarding aesthetic taste. We encourage a holistic approach to anti-aging because true youthfulness requires a combination of attitude, physical well being, as well as appearance.
While facial plastic surgery is often pursued to restore a youthful appearance, its results are most effective when a patient is vigilant about preserving mind, body, and spirit alike. Last, and perhaps most importantly, we believe that each of our patient’s needs is unique and that their course of treatment should reflect that of uniqueness. We strive to give the utmost in personalized care and service. From your first phone call to our office through your final follow-up visit, you will be given the time and attention needed to help you realize your individual aesthetic goals.
